Barbara Kahla
About the Artist
Barbara Kahla is an oil painter originally from Olney, MD who now resides in the Los Angeles area. Landscapes are her favored subject. Inspiration comes from photos taken during extended road trips around the US and Canada.
Barbara, who is a quilter of more than 30 years, renewed her love of painting in 2006, studying at the Yellow Barn in Glen Echo, MD and later at Artists & Makers and the Compass Atelier in Rockville, MD. She is inspired by the work of Edward Hopper, Joaquin Sorolla and others.
Barbara's work has won Juror's Awards and Honorable Mention in several local shows.
Resume
Barbara was raised in Baltimore County, Maryland, and graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS in Early Childhood Education. She worked in the Montgomery County, Maryland school system for 20 years as a paraeducator. She and her husband are retired and living in Santa Monica, California.
